Dr Abel Ernesto Lucena Pimentel
Abel Lucena Pimentel was born in Valencia, Venezuela. Since 2011, he is an assistant Professor in Business and Management at the Business Administration Department, University of the Balearic Islands. He got a Bachelor degree in Economics at the University of Carabobo (Venezuela). He holds a PhD in Economics (2007) from the University of Barcelona, and a PhD in Economics, Finance and Management (2011) from Pompeu Fabra University.
Abel was a teaching assistant and an instructor professor in the Undergraduate Programs in Economics, Management, and Political Science, as well as in the Graduate Program in Economics, Finance and Management (GPEFM) at Pompeu Fabra University. His teaching experience at the University of the Balearic Islands includes teaching in undergraduate and graduate courses in the degrees of Business Administration, Engineering and Tourism. Recently, his teaching activity involves lecturing courses, such as 'Innovation Management' (Undergraduate Program of Business Administration), 'Tourism Operations Management' (Undergraduate Program in Tourism), and 'International Business Strategies of Tourism Firms' (Graduate Program in Tourism Management and Planning).
Abel has been a fellow research visiting in the 'Centre for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises', Warwick Business School, University of Warwick (2012). He also has visited 'Heinz School of Public Policy and Management', Carnegie Mellon University (2006), and the Research Center in Welfare Economics at the University of Barcelona (2004-2007).
Abel's research interests lie at the intersection of strategic, management and innovation. He currently elaborates on these fields to investigate how firms organize their innovation activities during the process of knowledge creation. Abel was finalist for the 'Stephan Schrader Best Conference Paper Award' of the Technology & Innovation Management Division, 2010 Academy of Management Meeting (Canada). He has started to publish in journals such as 'Notes d'Economia', 'Industry & Innovation' and 'Academy of Management Proceeding'. Abel's research has been supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.
