Dr. S. Alberti's obtained his bachelor degree and doctorate in biology at the University of the Balearic Islands. He completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Faculty of Medicine at Harvard University (1994-1997), Department of Microbiology, University of Barcelona (1997-1998), Department of Biology, UIB (1998-1999) and established his own research group at the Research Unit of Hospital Son Dureta U. (1999-2005), and later moved to the UIB where he is currently Professor of Microbiology.

Dr. S. Alberti's research has been financially supported by public and private institutions, national and international, continuously since 1999. In this period he has directed 16 research projects, published more than 80 original articles in international journals and supervised 7 doctoral thesis. His H Factor is 36 (

His research interests include the molecular and cellular characterization of host-pathogen interactions and the study of the mechanisms of bacterial resistance to antimicrobial agents. In these years the bacterial pathogens studied have been; Klebsiella pneumoniae, Streptococcus pyogenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
